Create in 8!™

Home Decor Inspired!

Wouldn't it be lovely if you could change your furniture with the seasons? Or even based on your mood? That's how I felt when I came across this "Pennie Chair" from Crate and Barrel. This "Create in 8" will show you can use your favorite new piece of home decor to easily and affordably create a beautiful table design.

Step 1: FIND AN INSPIRATION PIECE.

The "Pennie Chair" stood out to me right away. It looks comfy, yet refined, and I love it's shape, colors and simple wooden peg legs. It's since been put on clearance, so who knows, it may find it's way into my living room after all!

Step 2: CHOOSE 3 COLORS.

This is easy. White, shades of blue, and green. I'm skipping a metallic for my accent and using wood/natural instead.

Step 3: CHARGER PLATES OR PLACEMATS.

For this piece, I wanted to show you all how you can affordably create a beautiful table design. I headed to the dollar store. What!?!?! Crate and Barrel for inspiration AND The Dollar Tree for execution? Yep! Just watch...

They had two different blue placemats, so I opted for the "fancier" of the two, and the blue happened to match my inspiration piece perfectly! I also came across these green coasters (4 for a $1) and picked them up as well. Even if I didn't decide to use them, I was only out a $1 and I'm sure they could come in handy in another design, if not.

Step 4: ADD A PERSONAL DETAIL.

My napkin rings are my DIY project for this design. Super easy!

Step 5: LOOK FOR ITEMS AROUND YOUR HOUSE THAT MATCH YOUR THEME.

Since I'm using wood as my accent (inspired by the peg legs), I was excited to use these palm tree wooden coasters I grabbed a while ago at my local home decor store!

Step 6: REPURPOSE ITEMS.

Next time you are at your local craft store, check that $1 ribbon bin section and grab what you love! As I was looking around my house for things that match this design, I found some ribbon that matched perfectly. Will use it to create my name cards!

Step 7: GO OUTSIDE.

This design was so easy in terms of bringing in nature, I knew I just needed some greenery. Don't have anything "real" to add to your design, don't be afraid to use silk or faux florals or greenery.

Step 8: STAND BACK AND TAKE A LOOK.

What do you think? *The plates and bowls are also from the dollar store, so you are looking at a total of $13 for plates, bowls, placemats and green coasters! Next time you see a piece of home decor you love, but aren't ready to completely re-decorate, just follow the steps in this "Create in 8!"
